Chairman's Pitch |
Following the 2010 AGM and subsequent Region Council meeting I was delighted, and honoured, to be re-elected as Yorkshire Region Chairman for another year.
The Chairman’s charity will continue to be Yorkshire Cancer Research and fund-raising will take place at various meets during the season. Arlene hopes to have a stall at the Region Meet selling cards and books to raise much need funds and I hope you will contribute to this very worthwhile cause.
The season is well under way now and we have been a lot luckier with the weather this year, about time too. This has been reflected with some good attendances at DA & Section meets and first indications are that early THSs have been quite successful.
This is very good news as it is the money generated at THSs that keep DAs and Sections afloat financially. Please support them, they provide great holidays at more than reasonable prices.
This weekend sees Yorkshire DA celebrate their 100th Birthday with a special meet at Wigg Hill, near Tadcaster.
To reach a century is a fantastic achievement and makes YDA one of the oldest DAs in the country. If you can get along and support the meet I am sure there will be a warm welcome awaiting you. (see YDA website for details).
The following week sees the Youth Section providing our entertainment by hosting the Yorkshire Region Meet at Carlton Towers (17th to 20th June).
There are all the usual events, plus professional entertainment, a great Trade Area and a Youth Penny Fair. ...............So, there’s plenty to see and do for all of us. Although bookings have now closed, you can still attend by coming along and camping on the un-booked area. And don’t think that means a bad pitch, the site has been laid out in a very compact manner and no-one is very far from the action. Bookings have gone very well, so don’t miss out on what is going to be a fantastic weekend, and the RYLOs (John & Jill) who are fronting the whole show, have even promised great weather.
There’s also Leeds DA’s Bogey Race meet this month and they also have a 40th Birthday Meet to come at Ripon racecourse (8th to 11th July see LDA website).
So it’s certainly going to be a busy summer for a lot of people, because it takes a lot of work to put these meets together. The least we can do is to try and get along and support them.
But don’t forget to support you local DA or Section meets, there’s always something for us to do, from action packed meets like SYDA’ Watersports Meet at Pugney’s, to quiet weekends where you can just do nothing, see the Out & About listings for full details of events in Yorkshire.
And don’t forget to visit this website and its links to all our DAs and Section
Finally, my thanks go to all the people who work so hard to provide our weekly entertainment.
Happy Camping.
Brian & Arlene
