Chairman’s Chat March 2012.
As we all start to prepare for the new camping season, we seem to have been really lucky with the weather so far, especially with some lovely days at the end of February. Let’s hope that it stays that way, so we can get away and enjoy the meets our DAs and Sections have arranged for our enjoyment.
This year Arlene and I will be joining YDDA, Leeds DA and Huddersfield DA for their AGM weekends. It’s a very busy time for all committee members as they prepare for their AGMs, but for us it’s a very enjoyable time because we are invited to join them at their meetings and socials afterwards.
That’s one of the great things about being Chairman, how welcoming and friendly all the DAs and Sections have been as we have visited them. As I come to the end of my term that is one of the things I will miss most. Another highlight for both of us has been being involved with so many of the Youth events that take place over the year. Yorkshire Region has the most vibrant and successful CCY group in the Country, their achievements are legendary. But what really counts most is that they are all good kids who learn their camping skills, have a good time and look after each other. They and their Youth Leaders are a credit to the Club, and for me it couldn’t be more fitting that my last official invitation as Chairman will be to attend their Summer Youth Rally at Winston’s Farm.
Just time for a couple of quick adverts…….We are again looking for new holiday stewards for the Region THSs at York and Flamborough. So if you are interested in making new friends and helping our Club, why not contact our Secretary Judith on 01132 383150, or Dave our THS Secretary on 07889 486881
Also, don’t forget to book your pitch at this year’s Region Meet at Carlton Towers. CYDA are our hosts and have done a marvellous job organising the event. Please look on their website for all the details, it’s going to be a great weekend.
My term as Chairman comes to an end at our May Council meeting, when all the new officers are elected into positions. I have been privileged to be able to serve for 3 years, and I must say it has been immensely enjoyable and has absolutely flown by.
So, as this is likely to be my last post on our website, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members who have supported me along the way. The Chairman tends to get all the best bits really, fronting events and so on, while all the hard work is done by the Secretary, Treasurer and Council members behind the scenes. Yorkshire Region is very lucky to have so many talented, committed people dedicated to providing our members with the best possible camping. We live in a wonderful area and are blessed with some of the Country’s most beautiful scenery it’s time to get out there and enjoy it.
Happy Camping.
Brian & Arlene
